Rugs by Louis de Poortere

The combination of beauty and quality has long been a hallmark of the Flemish textile industry, dating back to the Middle Ages. Over the centuries, this tradition has been strengthened through craftsmanship, innovation, and creativity, particularly in the fields of curtains, rugs, and carpets.

The De Poortere family became renowned pioneers within the textile industry, continually pushing the boundaries of weaving techniques and design. Following in this tradition, Louis de Poortere launched his own brand in 1929 in the Belgian city of Kortrijk.

While deeply rooted in the centuries-old expertise of his family, Louis always looked toward the future. Fascinated by innovation and inspired by his travels around the world, he developed a distinctive design philosophy that combined global influences with exceptional durability and quality. This unique approach continues to define the brand to this day.

The Louis de Poortere Rug Collection

The modern Louis de Poortere collections showcase an extraordinary blend of Oriental, Eastern, and Western influences. These inspirations are beautifully reflected in the award-winning Vintage Collection and can also be found throughout the patchwork-inspired designs of the renowned Fading World Collection.

In more recent collections, the brand has embraced a contemporary design direction while maintaining the emotional depth and storytelling that make its rugs so distinctive. Some designs reflect aspects of modern society, exploring themes such as change, contrast, disorder, and social division. Others celebrate harmony, unity, and connection.

Whether you choose a vintage-inspired Louis de Poortere rug with intricate patterns, a rug from the iconic Fading World Collection woven from durable Italian chenille, or one of the brand's many other signature collections, you can always expect extraordinary color compositions and artistic expression.

Polyester is a strong synthetic fibre that does not stretch easily, keeping this rug in shape even with daily use. The fibre repels moisture and is hypoallergenic; spills are easy to blot away with a damp cloth.

You can vacuum the rug with the bristles tucked in. To protect the delicate fibers, we advise against using vacuum cleaners (stick vacuums/robot vacuums), and for flat-woven rugs, to vacuum in the direction of the weave.
