For six generations, Van Buren Bolsward has built a rich history of expertise in the tanning, processing, and trade of sheepskins and animal hides. This family business has been passed down from generation to generation, with each new generation contributing fresh ideas, innovation, and renewal. The company's success for more than 160 years can be attributed to its unique combination of modernisation and tradition.

Van Buren Bolsward's Natural Sheepskins

A sheepskin is a natural and versatile product that has been valued for centuries for both its functionality and comfort. Whether you use a sheepskin in your home for its practical benefits or as a decorative accessory, it offers numerous advantages. One of the most remarkable characteristics of a sheepskin is its natural ability to regulate temperature. Thanks to its unique fibre structure, a sheepskin retains warmth during colder days while remaining comfortable when temperatures rise. This makes a sheepskin a suitable addition to your home throughout every season. Looking for even more comfort? Consider pairing it with a wool rug for an extra cosy and inviting interior.

Soft Sheepskins by Van Buren Bolsward

Everyone can appreciate the feeling: soft, comfortable, and irresistibly touchable. These are three of the defining qualities of a sheepskin rug. The natural appearance and softness of a white sheepskin contribute to a warm and welcoming atmosphere in any room. Combine a sheepskin with a Japandi-style rug to create your own oasis of calm and simplicity.

In addition to classic white sheepskins, Van Buren Bolsward also offers coloured sheepskins, perfect for adding a playful and vibrant touch to your interior. Did you know that sheepskins are also an environmentally friendly and sustainable choice? As a renewable and biodegradable natural product, they offer a more sustainable alternative to synthetic fibres.

Van Buren Bolsward Sheepskins and Their Health Benefits

One of the great advantages of a sheepskin is that it offers more than just decorative appeal. Sheepskins also provide several health benefits. Naturally hypoallergenic, the material is resistant to dust mites, bacteria, and mould, making it an excellent choice for people with asthma or allergies.

Wool

Sheep's wool is the basis of this rug, and owes its dirt and moisture repellent properties to lanolin, the wool's own natural grease, which also insulates against the cold and muffles sound better than a hard floor. In the first few weeks the fibre may shed slightly, a normal trait that settles down with regular vacuuming. Because wool rugs are often hand knotted or hand woven, small irregularities and slight size variations are normal.

Care

Vacuum twice a week with the brush retracted, this also reduces shedding on a new wool rug. Blot a spill immediately with a clean, slightly damp cloth without rubbing, so dirt does not work further into the fibre. Wool dries more slowly than other materials, so avoid getting it too wet. Shake the rug out outside occasionally for a deeper clean between vacuuming.
